Indianapolis black business owner hopes to empower others

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS – The third annual We Gold Block Party on Sunday allowed for community members to check out what the more than 100 local businesses had to offer.

Marvin Taylor owns All in the Wrists Barbershop, which is just one of more than 11,000 businesses owned by black men in Indiana and two and half million in the United States.

Taylor says the hair cutting clippers and scissors saved his life.

“It allowed me to be somebody that is respected in the community, to make an honest living, and to be able to provide employment opportunities for other young men as well,” Taylor said.

The goal for Taylor is to help his employees learn about running a business, hopefully giving them the knowledge to one day own their own business.

The U.S. Black Chambers hopes that at least four million black businesses are in the U.S. by 2020.
