INDIANAPOLIS — The new leader of the Indianapolis Housing Agency says he's committed to turning around an organization that was not focused.
John Hall credited his workforce for working long hours to address multiple concerns impacting families who need housing. Hall marked his 100th day on Tuesday saying accountability is key to his vision.
Hall said he is set to hold weekly and bi-weekly meetings to make sure issues good and bad are tackled in a reasonable time.
"Everyone through these first 100 days, in the next 100 days, I have made it clear — especially my senior management team — that no one job is safe. That they need to perform in order to keep their jobs," Hall said.
Hall says IHA also wants to bring a keen business sense to the operation.
"So we are off to the races and what I anticipate doing is scrubbing our waitlist," Hall said. "We have 16,000 applicants on the housing choice voucher waitlist; we will send letters out for the next four weeks."
The housing agency also confirms that it found nearly 200 vacant apartments they are looking to fill as soon as possible. The agency also says it has 1,000 vouchers for people to use to find affordable housing.
These developments all come following months of reports from Call 6 Investigates team, which questioned the agency's finances and business practices.
On Tuesday, executive director Hall responded directly to concerns that previous leaders provided misleading information to the public.
