INDIANAPOLIS — It seems like jury duty calls always come at the worst times.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett had a visit planned to Wheeler Mission for Monday. He was going to tour the women and children facility, as it plans for a multimillion-dollar expansion.

But he had to cancel over the weekend when he was called for jury duty.

His office mentioned the poor timing in Twitter, saying “Sometimes even mayors get called for jury duty.”

To serve on jury duty in Marion County, a person must be:

  • At least 18 years old,
  • A resident of Marion County,
  • Able to read, speak, and understand the English language.

If called for jury duty, you get $15 just for showing up. If you’re selected, you get $40 for each day on the jury.
