Indy Women in Tech host 3-day STEM event for students

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS – Frankton students were invited to learn more about STEM using a hands-on approach during the Indy Women in Tech golf championship at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Though the event has brought golfing fans together, Indy Women in Tech focuses on raising awareness and money for STEM initiatives aimed at women and children.

Students used robots, remote-controlled cars and other gadgets to develop science, technology, engineering and math skills. They also learned how to write code.

“Studies show that boys and girls are both equally great at these science classes and math classes, but, what happens is that interest level falls off as they get older,” said Melissa Watson of IWIT Foundation.

At the end of the 3-day event, foundation staff estimate 1,000 students will have experienced the STEM activities.
