INDIANAPOLIS — As extremely cold temperatures affect central Indiana over the next 72 hours, Indianapolis Power & Light Company has provided several safety tips to keep your household warm and ready.
Here are the tips:
- Avoid using appliances
Such as stoves for heating your home.
- Use caution when using an alternate heat source
Such as a fireplace, wood stove, portable/kerosene heater or electric heaters. Provide for proper ventilation and follow all manufacturer’s safety guidelines.
- Make sure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working
- Have an emergency plan in place
Know where you can go to stay warm in case you lose power. Here is a list of counties with warming centers.
