INDIANAPOLIS -- The matriarch of the family behind Veal's Ice Tree died Saturday.
Mabel Veal died at age 98, just a couple weeks shy of her 99th birthday, according to an online obituary.
Mabel went to high school in Cadiz, Indiana, before marrying Vierl Veal in 1940. They had five children, many of whom worked on the famous ice tree on Indianapolis' southeast side beginning in 1961.
