INDIANAPOLIS – Fall is the perfect season for trying new apple recipes and carving pumpkins with family, and Indianapolis offers plenty of places to get your journey started.
While probably any ole’ orchard will due, Indy has a third generation, family-owned business that has a lot more than apples and pumpkins.
Adrian Orchards, located on Indy’s south side, has many bragging points – it was established in 1925, grows over 40 varieties of apples and is home to the Guinness World Record holder for the fastest apple picker – George Adrian who runs the place.
For over 90 years, customers have stepped into what started as a home garage, but was later transformed into the Adrian Orchards store to discover new home goods.
You’ll find apples – of course – homemade jams, salad dressings, pumpkins, local honey, apple butter, award-winning apple cider and practically any other apple creation your heart desires.
George and his wife Monika wear several hats, along with their employees to keep the place in order.
The Fall Harvest Festival gives kids – and adults – the chance to pick their own pumpkins, and take home wagons full of apples while munching on fried biscuits slathered with apple butter.
