INDIANAPOLIS -- First, there was Bird. Starting Saturday, Lime will also rent electric scooters in Indianapolis.

The Lime-S scooters cost $1 to unlock and 15 cents per minute to ride.

You have to be 18 years old and have a driver's license to rent a Lime.

"Indianapolis will be the first market in the midwest with Lime scooters because of the City's culture of innovation and connectivity," said Jason Wilde, Lime Regional General Manager.

You use Lime's mobile app to find a scooter and unlock it. Once your ride is over, use the app again to lock the Lime and then park it by a curb or at a bike rack.

The scooters will be placed at designated locations throughout Indianapolis before morning rush hour.

Lime will pick them up each night for recharging.

On Tuesday, the city asked Bird scooters to suspend operations for 30 days so they can address "public safety, legal and regulatory concerns." Despite that request, Bird scooters are still available to rent in Indy.

Lime has been in contact with the city for about six months about its plan to bring its electric scooters to Indianapolis, according to Maggie Gendron, Director of Strategic Development for Lime.

Gendron says the company is aware of the request made to Bird to suspend operations and Lime plans to work with the city as the process of regulating electric scooters moves forward
