2-year-old struck by car and killed on Indy's northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS — A 2-year-old child was struck and killed in a parking lot on the city's northeast side on Monday afternoon.

The crash happened just after 4 p.m. in the 3200 block of Ashland Avenue, according to a spokesman for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

The child was hit while a vehicle was backing up in the parking lot.

The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators.

As standard procedure fatal accidents, the driver was taken for a blood draw.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
