Person shot at Motel 8 on Indy's northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS -- A man was shot Saturday night at a Motel 8 on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers and emergency responders were called around 7:30 p.m. to the Motel 8, in the 3700 block of North Shadeland Avenue, on the report of a person shot. 

When they arrived, they found a male shot. Police say witnesses heard an argument on an upstairs balcony before the shooting. 

 Police said the victim was awake and alert when they arrived.

The suspect is believed to have fled the scene on foot. 

Police have not released the identity of the victim or the suspect at this time.
