Fire crews were originally called to the home in the 7200 block of Highland Road just before midnight Thursday.

One adult and two children made it out of the house, but one adult man was still inside. He had to be rescued from the second floor of the house.

The man was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. The two children were taken to Riley Hospital to be evaluated for smoke inhalation.

Three dogs died in the fire.

IMPD homicide detectives and arson investigators from the Pike Township Fire Department were on the scene through the night.

Correction: This story previously cited Call 6 sources in reporting that the victim was deceased. IMPD later reported he remains in critical condition.
