INDIANAPOLIS — A stretch of Interstate 65 that passes right through the heart of downtown Indianapolis has about 30 feet of damaged guardrail.
The damaged section is Just before the Meridian Street exit, heading southbound.
“Having that guardrail down, and even just the curve itself can be a little harrowing,” Vincent Victory, an Indianapolis resident who lives nearby, said. “There’s also normally at least a car run off the road a week there,”
Down below the curve is a long drop off to a busy intersection.
“In the worst-case scenarios somebody careens off of that pass there, and yeah, you’re looking at a pretty major accident,” he said.
RTV6 reached out to the Indiana Department of Transportation to see if they knew about the damage. INDOT said they were now adding it to their database for repairs.
A spokesperson for INDOT said they do have maintenance crews on the roads who will report damage when they see it — but they can’t be everywhere. INDOT said they largely rely on everyday folks to report things like this.
The damaged guardrail should take between three to 15 days to get fixed.
