INDIANAPOLIS — Glenn Olvey of Indianapolis faced life's curve balls the best he could ---head on and with humor.

In 2012, his family including his ex-wife and best friend Gloria and their two daughters were rescued from their collapsed home following the Richmond Hill explosion.

Despite the tragedy, the South Side neighborhood and its people held a special place in his heart.

His peace was interrupted again in 2015, this time by lung cancer which he confronted valiantly and vigorously.

His family and pets kept his spirits up. In recent months, he was living with his son from a previous relationship.

Among Glenn’s final wishes--his buddies took him out for golf. Glenn had remarked that the October outing was “one of the best days of his life.” His other wish was for a can of beer.

He was given the okay to have one and used a straw to enjoy his Miller Lite drink.

Glenn was passionate about softball.

In a game and world made up of strikes, fouls, and hits. The 58-year-old Army veteran made it point to live life to the fullest. For the former umpire, it was his calling card.

Glenn died Wednesday evening at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin under the care of Hospice.

After his passing, friends and family finished the remaining 5 Miller Lite cans with a toast to Glenn.

Funeral arrangements for Glenn are still pending. He is set to be laid to rest in Indianapolis.
