INDIANAPOLIS -- A popular Indianapolis coffee, beer and wine bar closed its doors for the final time Wednesday night.
An employee at Thirsty Scholar told RTV6 over the phone they were originally told they would be closing at the end of the month, but when they came in to work on Wednesday they were told it would be their last day.
Kevin Schmidlin, Owner of Thirsty Scholar, released this statement:
"The Thirsty Scholar has been a profitable business for 5 years, both financially and spiritually; however for the current owners it is time to move on. We're grateful to everyone who helped make it something special, and we look forward to the future for the near north side of Indianapolis. I would like to address the concerns I have seen in the media about pay for the Thirsty Scholar staff. They will be paid as they regularly are this Friday in full."
A notice posted on the door says there is a possibility that Thirsty will reopen at some time in the future but gave no further details.
Thirsty Scholar on E. 16th Street has been open since 2013 and offers a unique mix of beer, wine, and coffee.
The Thirsty Scholar has 10 employees.
