INDIANAPOLIS --  A 6-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle while waiting at the school bus stop Monday morning and his mother says asked for that stop to be moved on more than one occasion.

The crash happened at about 7 a.m., near the intersection of 29th and Rader streets on Indianapolis' west side.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers say a black vehicle was going north on Rader and ran a stop sign. The black vehicle hit a van headed east on 29th Street.

The crash sent one of the vehicles into the bus stop, injuring 6-year-old Torrence.

"He's in pain, he has bruises and scratches, but he's strong and he's going to make it," said Torrence's mom, Cierra Waugh.

An officer on the scene said the child's grandmother was also transported to the hospital, but a police spokesperson later said the child was the only person hurt. The grandmother was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

"She's just really traumatized because she saw my son's body laying there and everyone thought he was lifeless," said Waugh.

A nearby resident, who asked not to be identified, said the intersection is a constant stream of screeching tires due to the hill the stop sign is on. They said they don't think a bus stop should be near the intersection.

Torrence's mother says she's asked his bus company numerous times to move the bus stop, because she was afraid someone was going to get hurt.

"This is not a good place to have children waiting on the bus," said Waugh. "I've asked his bus company so many times.. told them that this was a dangerous intersection. My grandmother's lived there her whole life so I know. I've seen car accidents, I've seen parked cars get totaled in the middle of the night."

RTV6 has reached out to Indianapolis Public Schools who say they will reevaluate the bus stop and consider moving it somewhere else after Monday's accident.
