INDIANAPOLIS —A significant investment in a west side neighborhood that city leaders hope makes the community stronger.

The first newly constructed minority-owned and operated funeral home opened on Friday, in the 1100 Block of West 30th Street.

Lloyd Sprowl and Lori Hobbs are the owners of Sprowl Funeral and Cremation Care.

The two have a combined 20 years serving the community.

The $1.2 million funeral home is located steps from Clifton Square apartments, an $11 million mixed-use affordable housing development that opened in 2015.

"This section of our city, West 30th Street, is not just seeing millions of dollars in investment, it sees the kind of investment that strengthens our community," Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said.

Sprowl Funeral and Cremation Care say it will open its doors to the community. Space will be available to groups and organizations.

The chapel is also able to live stream services for people unable to physically attend services.
