Indianapolis City-County Council honors record-breaking Ben Davis football team

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis City-County Council passed a resolution Monday night to honor the Ben Davis High School Giants football team for its 2017 Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) 6A State Championship win.

West side councilors Jared Evans, Janice McHenry, and Marilyn Pfisterer sponsored the resolution.

The team ended the season with a 14-0 record, and averaged 46.2 points per game, and the highest punting average of 45.5.

Head Coach Mike Kirschner, who is a 1979 graduate from Warren Central High School, has been named as the Indianapolis Colts Indiana Football Coach of the Year and is a finalist for both the NFL High School Coach of the Year and the 2018 Army Bowl Coach of the Year.

“The Council extends its congratulations to the entire team, coaching staff and school administration on their achievement and wishes each player great success in their future endeavors, both athletically and academically,” read the resolution.
