INDIANAPOLIS— The Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation has awarded the Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township $1.2 million to help educate students about substance abuse and improve the emotional and social well-being of its students.
The grant is part of a three-year initiative launched by the foundation called Prevention Matters.
MSD Wayne is one of 24 grant recipients in Marion County and will participate in the initiative aimed at serving more than 70,000 students across 151 schools by the 2020-2021 school year.
“Prevention Matters funding will help our schools deliver evidence-based prevention programs to students beginning this school year,” said Mary Lang, spokeswoman for MSD Wayne. “The programs we have selected are designed to help improve academic achievement, attendance, and classroom behavior. These programs can reduce bullying and violence, as well.”
MSD Wayne will use the funds to support training for teachers and staff, as well as curriculum materials.
The Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation aims to advance the vitality of Indianapolis and the well-being of its people by addressing the city’s most significant challenges and opportunities.
