INDIANAPOLIS — A person has died after being shot in the front yard of a neighborhood on the city's west side.

According to IMPD, a person was shot around 6:15 a.m. this morning in the 7100 block of Pluto Drive.

The person was initially considered to be critically injured, but later died.

On Thursday, the man who died was identified as 18-year-old Terry Ross.

A neighbor, Sach Diaz, said his son was returning home from work when they noticed Ross lying in the yard. He and his son called police and gave chest compressions to Ross.

"I have been in this neighborhood for 18 and a half years," Diaz said. "To see this happening and it getting progressively worse is just a shame. This was a good neighborhood."

Diaz and other neighbors say the neighborhood has seen a recent uptick in crime.

A 16-year-old has been arrested and is preliminarily charged with murder, according to IMPD.

The investigation is ongoing.
