INDIANAPOLIS—A new fire chief will be taking over at the Wayne Township Fire Department.
Trustee-elect Democrat Chuck Jones, who upset Republican incumbent Andy Harris last week, made the announcement Monday that Battalion Chief Randy Adams will assume the duties on January 1, 2019.
Adams has been with the agency for 35 years and will replace Fire Chief Gene Konzen.
Harris has served as township trustee for the past eight years.
Retired union leader Chuck Jones told RTV6 he wants to change how they reach people in need.
"We are going to come to them and try to make it easier to apply for relief --so what we will do is talk to community leaders, churches, or union halls--like Haughville and Mars Hill and some of those areas and make it easier to apply," said Jones.
Jones said his other priorities include investing in drug prevention and youth-focused programs.
Jones made national news when he took on President Donald Trump over promises to save Carrier jobs from being moved to Mexico.
