INDIANAPOLIS — Students at the Area 31 Career Center at Ben Davis High school got a special visit this month from the Republic of Uganda.

A delegation of school leaders from the East African country wanted to learn more about innovative offerings in career and technical education.

The visit followed an Indianapolis-based Kappa Delta Pi conference called “Designing the Future.”

“Throughout their tour, our Ugandan visitors were impressed by the industry-current resources, the high levels of excitement shown by staff, and the professional engagement of our Area 31 students,” said Mary Lang, a spokeswoman for MSD of Wayne Township. “They were so impressed, in fact, that they asked if their staff and students could partner with Area 31 programs via Skype in the future.”

Launched in 1975, Area 31 has turned passions into professions for more than 30,000 students.
