SPEEDWAY, Ind. -- An Indianapolis woman has been arrested and charged with burglary and theft following accusations she entered a Speedway home and stole a homeowner’s wallet from her purse.

Based on tips from the public, the Speedway Police Department was able to identify Melinda Buckmaster, 46, from surveillance photos.

She was arrested on January 9 and is currently incarcerated in the Marion County jail.

According to the police report, a child was home in the 2100 block of Allison Avenue when she heard a knock at the door.

The little girl told police a “grandma age” female asked if her mother was home and then entered the home, removed a Coach wallet from her mother’s purse and left the house.

Buckmaster then used the victim’s credit cards to make purchases, and was seen on surveillance video at a local store.
