Woman arrested for July 2017 murder on Indianapolis' west side

INDIANAPOLIS -- A woman has been arrested for the murder of her ex-boyfriend last July.

Police were dispatched to a home on Luett Avenue on July 9, 2017, after Vickie Harper, 52, allegedly called 911 and said she shot Jerry Etheridge, 53. 

Etheridge was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crime was originally classified as self-defense when it was initially investigated.

On Monday, after nine months spent processing the evidence,  Etheridge's death was determined to be a homicide and Harper was arrested for murder.

The change in classification means2017's final criminal homicide tally is 155.
