INDIANAPOLIS — Tonight's meeting of the City-County Council in Indianapolis could featured heated talks over the next budget for Metro Police.
A public hearing on the proposed budget from Democratic Mayor Joe Hogsett is scheduled to be part of tonight's regular council meeting. The mayor wants to give IMPD $7 million more than last year's police budget. But some members of activist groups and others in the community are expected to criticize the plan.

Several groups have called on the city to defund police, or at the very least hold the line on boosting the department's budget, following the police shooting deaths of Dreasjon Reed and McHale Rose in March.
Tonight's meeting is at 7:00pm at the City-County Building. It will be a hybrid meeting, with some members of the council attending in person and some attending remotely. Public comments on the proposed budget will be accepted in person. If you can't attend, you can also leave a comment online HERE.
