BLOOMINGTON — Indiana University received the go-ahead for a massive renovation of two residence halls with serious mold problems.

The mold issues were exposed last fall in Foster and McNutt Residence Halls.

Hundreds of students reported mold-related health issues and had to be moved out of their dorms.

The state budget committee approved IU's $56 million plan to replace heating, ventilation and cooling systems in Foster and McNutt.

The work will start next year and wrap up by the fall 2021 semester.

About 2,500 beds will be unavailable during the renovation.
