IU police investigating report of rape on campus

Posted

Indiana University police were investigating a report of rape on campus this week – at least the fourth such report since classes resumed in August.

The female student told police she was battered and raped in a room at Wright Quad last week. The suspect was identified as another student the victim knew.

Universities around Indiana were investigating multiple reports of sexual assault on campus since classes began amid a heightened national conversation about rape on college campuses.

Earlier this month, former IU student John Phillip Enochs was charged with two counts of rape in connection with separate incidents related to fraternity events.

In August, a 17-year-old student reported an assault at Ashton Residence Hall to IU police.

In May, an IU police officer was accused of raping a student inside a dorm. That officer resigned. The Monroe County Prosecutor's Office later said it had insufficient evidence to file charges.
