BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- An Indiana University student was stabbed early Sunday morning. The stabbing prompted a campus alert.

Police say the victim was approached by a man asking for money near the intersection of Law Lane and Union Street around 3:15 a.m. Saturday.

The victim told officers the suspect patted him down and then stabbed him when he did not find any cash.

The suspect ran from the scene. The student ran off and called a friend, who took him to the hospital.

He is expected to survive.

The suspect was described as a middle-aged man with a beard. He was reportedly wearing a black hoodie with a logo and black sweatpants.

Police say there is no longer a threat to students, but they are asking everyone to be cautious.
