JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. -- Center Grove is investigating after several reports that their head football coach is abusing his authority and being verbally abusive to his players.
Center Grove Superintendent Dr. Rich Arkanoff issued a statement Wednesday saying the investigation began in February after the school corporation received an allegation that Head Coach Eric Moore assaulted an athlete. Moore was placed on paid administrative leave while the school and the Department of Child Protective Services investigated the claim.
Dr. Arkanoff said DPS later determined that the assault allegation was "unsubstantiated" and Moore was reinstated to his position as head football coach.
After his reinstatement, the school received additional reports claiming that Moore was "abusing his authority" and being "verbally abusive" toward his players, according to Dr. Arkanoff.
He said the school then hired an outside independent investigator to investigate the allegations. That investigation is expected to wrap up in the next few weeks.

In February 2018, the School Corporation received an allegation that Coach Eric Moore had assaulted an athlete. The School Corporation immediately reported this information to the Indiana Department of Child Protective Services and an investigation was conducted. In the interim, pending the outcome of the CPS investigation, Coach Moore was placed on paid administrative leave. On or around February 27, 2018, the Indiana Department of Child Protective Services verbally notified the School Corporation that they had determined the assault allegation to be unsubstantiated and they were going to close their file. Accordingly, Coach Moore was reinstated to duty.
Additional claims against Coach Moore have been made alleging that he was abusing his authority as a coach by being verbally abusive toward his players. The School Corporation retained an outside independent investigator to conduct an investigation into these allegations. This investigation is still ongoing and is anticipated to be wrapped up within the next few weeks.
