WHITELAND, Ind. -- A Whiteland family who lost everything in a fire Saturday morning says they are just thankful they were able to get out alive.

Firefighters were called to the home on Ardmoore Drive around 4 a.m.

Elizabeth Wright said she was sleeping in bed when she heard the fire alarm going off. She woke her husband who was able to rescue their two young children and get the entire family safely from the home out a back window.

"I can't even explain the feeling," said Wright "All I knew is that those kids had to get out of the house, we never would have left them - there's no way."

Wright said she is thankful they had working smoke detectors in their home.

The family's dog did not make it out alive.

Wright said she had just done most of their Christmas shopping on Black Friday and everything they had is now gone.

"My daughter is taking it very hard," said Wright.

Family members are working to raise money for the family to replace some of what they lost.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined but firefighters estimate the damage is estimated to be around $50,000.
