JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. -- A Franklin teen involved in a 2013 crash has died, 4 years after suffering a traumatic brain injury.

Michael Williams, 20, passed away on Nov. 18 at Homeview Health and Rehabilitation in Franklin.

Following the November 5, 2013 crash at US 31 and Tracy Road, the community rallied around Williams and inspired the hashtag #FightBigMike.

Williams’ mother, Mandie Hendrickson, said her son did not recover from his traumatic brain injury and was unable to communicate or walk.

“He did try to fight for those 4 years,” said Hendrickson. “Everyone that knew him knows he was fun, loving, a comedian, the class clown, he had amazing friends and loved to make people laugh.”

Williams loved basketball and football.

Hendrickson said she’s grateful for the outpouring of support and appreciates the community rallying around her son.

Two other teenagers were in the car with Williams at the time of the 2013 crash, and both survived.

Hendrickson said her son, a passenger in the car, was wearing his seatbelt and that speed was a factor in the crash.

He attended Whiteland Community High School and Franklin Community High School.

A service for Williams will be held Wednesday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center in Franklin at 2:30 pm.

The public is welcome to attend.

Supporters have set up a benefit account for Michael Williams at Fifth Third Bank to help cover a headstone for Williams.
