JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. -- The city of Franklin will spend $25,000 on expanded environmental testing near an old contaminated plant.
City officials say they’ve hired Enviro-Forensics to collect groundwater and soil samples in the Glendale drive and Ross Court area near the old Amphenol plant.

The concerns stem from the old Ampehnol factory grounds on the city’s east side. The grounds are still contaminated, and years from being fully cleaned up.

Out of caution, Franklin Community Schools tested two nearby elementary schools earlier this month. They were cleared before classes began.
The advocacy group If This Was Your Child believes the Amphenol site is to blame for a significant number of pediatric cancer cases in the area. They’re convinced more needs to be done.
The city says the $25,000 project will hopefully address homeowner concerns.
