FRANKLIN — By this time next year, work should be done on the City of Franklin's first splash pad. A $250,000 grant from the American Water Charitable Foundation will fund the pad which will be part of the larger amphitheater project on South Main Street.

Indiana American Water is the utility serving Franklin and Johnson County.

The City of Franklin is one of only two recipients nationwide to receive this grant for 2020. "I am very grateful for the support of the American Water Charitable Foundation, Indiana American Water, and the National Recreation and Park Association for this splash pad," said Mayor Steve Barnett. "This pad will not only increase the opportunities for physical activity for all of our children, but will encourage an appreciation for the natural resources such as water for their parents."

"Through our work, we have found splash pads are a wonderful way to ensure water access for all, while supporting out conservation focus and engaging community members in environmental education education," said Carrie Williams, president, American Water Charitable Foundation.

“Giving back to communities we serve is part of the culture at American Water and we are pleased to partner with the City of Franklin, to provide this outdoor play space so families can enjoy the wonders of water, while also learning the valuable role we all play in protecting our environment," Williams added.

The splash pad is expected to be completed in conjunction with the new playground, walking trail, and amphitheater in mid-summer of 2021.
