FRANKLIN — A Muncie woman is dead and four others were injured after a crash Saturday afternoon on Interstate 65 southbound near Franklin, according to state police.

Christine Lykins, 55, was killed after she rear-ended a stopped pick-up truck around 12 p.m. near State Road 44, Indiana State Police Sgt. John Perrine said in a press release. The pick-up truck then rear-ended another car.

A 20-year-old and 19-year-old, who were passengers in Lykins car, were thrown through the windshield, Perrine said. They were taken to a hospital and their conditions are unknown.

Traffic investigators believe no one in Lynkins' car was wearing a seatbelt, Perrine said.

The drivers of the other two vehicles involved in the crash were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, Perrine said.

A semi-truck completely stopped in traffic was bumped as a result of the crash, Perrine said. The driver left the scene and investigators are trying to locate them.

Traffic was backed up in the area at the time of the crash due to construction, Perrine said.
