GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Thanksgiving is such a special time for families, however, some people in Central Indiana who might want to provide a meal for their loved ones may not be able to do so. That’s where groups like Mt. Pleasant Christian Church are stepping in to help.
The congregation is chipping in for what’s being coined as the “Celebration of Abundance”. It’s an effort to collect enough food to feed 850 families around Central Indiana. Congregation members were asked to take a reusable grocery bag to fill the store. The list inside asked for items like gravy, stuffing, chicken stock, etc. It’s everything you might need to put together a Thanksgiving feast.
“Celebration of Abundance is an opportunity for our church to make an even greater IMPACT on families that we’re already connected to through a variety of ministries specifically designed to love and serve our community. And it’s about more than just giving someone what they need for a Thanksgiving meal. We create an event where we serve and encourage people in a personal way. Jesus said that he came not to be served by to serve, and that’s the example we follow,” said Pastor Chris Philbeck.
Mt. Pleasant plans to distribute the meals in the days leading up to Thanksgiving, at the main Greenwood campus and at the IMPACT Old Southside location.
The church’s mission statement is, “We want to change the world one life, one family, one opportunity at a time.”
Abundance of Hope is an annual effort. There are always more volunteers to give to “Celebration of Abundance” than there are bags to take home.
