Greenwood man trying to track down family members connected to an old family Bible

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- A Greenwood man is on the search for family connected to an old Bible.

Steven Dyer posted on the neighborhood app "Nextdoor" to see if his neighbors could help him find the rightful owners of an old family Bible. He found the Bible while rummaging through a book bin at a local Goodwill store. He noticed the Bible was old, and inside, it contains several handwritten notes.

Instead of leaving the old piece of family history in the book bin, he decided to purchase the Bible and find someone connected to this family.

"My main objective is just to get this back in the hands of a family member that would cherish the history recorded in the book," says Dyer.

He says the Bible is filled with records like births, deaths, and marriages dating back to the year 1949. It was purchased for $16 back then.

"I have had a huge outpouring of offers to help and leads on this," says Dyer. "My heart, nor my conscious could stand the thought of that book laying unprotected in the bin."

Several neighbors online have posted ideas for tracking down the names of the people connected to the names inside the pages. According to one page in the Bible, it belongs to Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Marion Newhouse in Whiteland.

Dyer thinks he may have found a family member of the Newhouse's and left a message for them on their phone. We will keep you updated on this story.

If you think you know the family connected to this Bible, let us know! We would love to assist this Good Samaritan in his search.
