GREENWOOD, Ind. -- After four decades on the job, Bob Dine is calling it a career.
On Sunday, Dine celebrated his 41 years on the Greenwood Police Department with friends and family.
Dine began his career in 1977, and watched his city grow while his department provided public safety.
Greenwood Mayor Mark W. Myers issued a proclamation honoring Dine’s years of service, including his stint as Greenwood police chief.
The former chief expressed gratitude for his fellow officers and encouraged others to become public servants, while offering advice for those who might want to follow in his footsteps.
“Just do the best you can, be honest and treat people with respect, even though they don’t treat you sometimes with respect,” Dine said. “Just dedicate yourself to the job, your faith and your family.”
Dine comes from a family of police officers that can be traced to his great-grandfather Thompson Jennings, who was the marshal in Greenwood between 1900 and 1908.
Dine’s father also served as a Greenwood police officer, and his brother, Jeff Dine, spent years as the chief of the Speedway Police Department.
