JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. -- A deputy with the Johnson County Sheriff's Department was called to a Center Grove student's house in connection with an overheard discussion on a school bus.
According to a sheriff's department incident report, a student told her parents they had overheard a conversation about a student who had been bullied. She had heard the student was going to bring a gun to school. The deputy went to the house Tuesday evening.
Due to the rumors, Center Grove Superintendent Dr. Rich Arkanoff sent a letter to parents about security concerns. He said there are no safety concerns for students or staff.
"Last night, we informed parents at Middle School North of some negative messages that had been written in a bathroom and negative comments that had been reported to have made. We have spoken to several students and their parents regarding the reported comments and determined all of the accounts were rumors not based in fact or first-hand accounts."
In 2014 and 2015, Center Grove updated its safety systems, adding new door security for visitors. Visitors can not get into schools without being swiped or buzzed into the building.
