Justice uncertain for victims of Mark Leonard's construction, dating site scams

Victims of Mark Leonard's construction and dating schemes were hoping to make their case in Johnson County court Friday.

"I am holding out hope," said Kim Barker, one of Leonard's victims.

Barker doesn't want her contractor Mark Ray Leonard to get away with the $27,000 she's owed.

"I want my money back," she said.

Since their last court appearance, Leonard was arrested in connection to the south side explosion.

"Greed will push people to do crazy things when it's about money," she said. "It's the root of all evil."

Barker hired Leonard to work on remodeling her Greenwood home after meeting him on a dating website.

The work began in 2011 and suddenly stopped.

The court declined to bring Leonard from the Marion County jail considering he told a judge in Indianapolis that most of his money burned in the explosion on Nov. 10.

None of the suspects in the south side explosion case are talking.

Monserrate Shirley, her boyfriend Mark and his brother Robert Leonard have all signed papers with the Marion County Sheriff's Department saying that they're refusing to take questions from the Call 6 Investigators.

Back at the Johnson County courthouse, Barker is asking other women victimized by Leonard to step forward.

"When you're taken advantage of in any shape or form -- the law is there. It may take some time," she said.

With Leonard currently in custody and his future up in the air, there is no telling if the ladies will ever get their day in court.
