TIPTON COUNTY — A Kokomo man died in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday in Tipton County.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Tony Slocum said in a news release that officers responded to the crash at about 12:50 a.m. Saturday on Tipton County Road 1125 West at Tipton County Road 50 North.

Slocum said a preliminary crash investigation by Senior Trooper A.J. Coffee found Harley Mayhew, 40, was driving northbound on County Road 1125 West in a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe when he failed to stop at a stop sign, drove into a yard and struck a tree.

Mayhew was pronounced dead at the scene after first responders found him unresponsive and without a pulse, Slocum said.

Slocum said Mayhew was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
