LPD: Student brought loaded gun to high school

LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- A 15-year-old student brought a loaded gun to Lafayette Jefferson High School Monday, according to the Lafayette Police Department.

The gun was found after the Lafayette School Corporation administration and school security were notified that the student may have had a firearm on the school's property. 

School officials and officers identified and located the student, escorted him to a safe location and searched him. During the search, they discovered a handgun with ammunition, Lafayette police say.

The juvenile was transported to the Lafayette Police Department and juvenile probation. He has been preliminarily charged with possession of a handgun and possession of stolen property.

The student's identity has not been released.

No one was hurt.
