INDIANAPOLIS — Large potholes reported on I-69 and I-65 caused dozens of flat tires and disabled vehicles Thursday morning.
A large pothole on southbound I-65 near 71st Street was the single cause of multiple disabled vehicles and a large stretch of backed up traffic. Indiana Department of Transportation Crews responded Thursday morning to fill the pothole and were working on other emergency fixes.
Multiple large potholes along I-69 near Anderson also caused a mess leaving multiple vehicles disabled along a two-mile stretch of the interstate. INDOT says they are aware of the potholes and have reached out to the contractor who is in charge of that stretch of interstate. They say the contractor tells them they will be out sometime overnight in the next couple of days to repair those potholes.
For the time being, INDOT says the speed limit along I-69 starting at the 218 mile marker has been lowered to 45 miles per hour.
INDOT crews were out on I-69 near Anderson filling potholes between the 218-220 mile markers on Wednesday after multiple tire-busting incidents.
