Longtime Indianapolis journalist Jill Ditmire dies at 56

INDIANAPOLIS — Jill Ditmire, a longtime Indianapolis journalist who focused on local arts, has died, her employer WFYI announced Monday. She was 56.

Ditmire's contributions included Curious Mix, Indiana Outdoors and The Good Life. According to WFYI, Ditmire held a number of different roles, including anchor of WFYI's All Things Considered. She worked at numerous local Indianapolis television stations. In addition, she was a producer and co-host of a range of Indiana public media programs, a freelance contributor to print publications and was a reporter and anchor at several radio stations.

"Jill was a respected journalist and a tireless advocate for the Indianapolis arts community," WFYI CEO and President Greg Petrowich said in a statement. "More than that, she was a friend and colleague and will be missed by all who knew her."

Beyond her career in broadcast media, Ditmire was also known for her interest in food and wine, according to WFYI. Ditmire served as both a judge and contestant in a range of food and wine events and was involved with various other groups.

Ditmire was a 1986 graduate of Butler University and spent time teaching Newswriting 101 at her alma mater.

Plans for services will be announced at a later date.
