ANDERSON, Ind. -- Organizers of Anderson’s First Friday Art Walks are touting the successes so far and looking forward to a festive future.
First Fridays officially launched on June 1 and take place from 5-8 p.m. on the first Friday of every month.
Officials say the events highlight Anderson’s Artisan community while making the downtown area a destination for people seeking unique entertainment options.
Levi Rinker, who works for Anderson Economic Development office, says the Summer Concert Series has been one of the highlights of the inaugural season.
“Crowds have been impressive,” Rinker said. “We’ve had about 400 people walk thru during each of the concerts.”
Rinker says First Fridays have also given a boost to small businesses already located along the Art Walk and several new micro-entrepreneurs have also begun setting up shop in the nearby Union Building.
Other communities are paying attention to what’s happening in Anderson.
Rinker says they’re collaborating with the City of Marion on a plan to “swap artists." Marion is also considering starting their own First Friday Art Walk.
