ANDERSON, Ind. -- The assistant city attorney for Anderson, Indiana was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Wednesday evening.

Evan Broderick, 36, who is also the son of Anderson Mayor Thomas Broderick Jr., was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and suspicion of leaving the scene of a property damage accident, said Edgewood Police Chief Andy Ellingwood.

Officers were called to investigate a crash into a utility pole near the intersection of W. 8th Street and Raible Avenue at about 7 p.m. The officers arrived to find evidence of a crash with car parts were all over the road, but no car.

The responding officer followed the trail of car parts and liquid and located a car in the parking lot of a Wendy’s just south of the initial location. The officer found a man sitting in the car with it still running.

Ellington said Broderick was "not cooperative and was threatening to sue everyone.”

He said Broderick smelled of alcohol and refused to take a breathalyzer, so a warrant was obtained and his blood was drawn at the jail, where he continued to be uncooperative.

He bonded out of the Madison County Jail on Thursday morning after posting a $5,000 bond.

According to his website, Broderick previously served as Madison County Deputy Prosecutor and offers many different types of legal defense, including OWI and DUI.
