Man struck, killed by IMPD officer on Indy's southwest side

INDIANAPOLIS — A man was struck and killed by an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer while walking along the road on the city's southwest side late Sunday evening.

IMPD officers responded to the scene arond 11 p.m. near South Lynhurst Drive and Kentucky Avenue. Police say the officer was patrolling the area when he struck the man, who was walking along the side of the road in the dark.

The officer tried to give first aid to the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's identity has not been released.

The officer was taken to get a blood test, per protocol for any situation involving an officer.

Police are still working to piece together the details from the scene and the incident remains under investigation.
