If you can stomach it, going to a haunted house is one of the most "Halloween" things to do this season. It's like your favorite scary movie, only you know ... real.
For those brave souls, we've compiled a list of some of the best haunted houses in central Indiana. Also, check out the map below the list to see what haunted house you're closest to.
Indy Scream Park in Anderson, Indiana is the obvious and most famous one. It features six attractions this year:
- Pandemic
- Zombieland Apocalypse
- Rage 3D
- Brickmore Asylum
- Back Woods
- Monster Midway
Tickets cost between $20 and $25 online. It opened Oct. 6 and closes Nov. 5. It's located at 5211 S. New Columbus Road in Anderson.

Edge of Insanity is the only haunted attraction in Kokomo. It is an asylum-themed haunted house taking place every Saturday and Sunday in October. It's located at 5635 N. 00 E. West in Kokomo.
Admission is $10 per person.
Calling itself "Indianapolis' Scariest Haunted House," Haunted Angelus is open on select days throughout October and November. Check its dates page here for more information. It's located at 8829 E. Washington Street.
Tickets cost $22 each.
A farm 11 months out of the year, the Shireman Homestead turns into "The Haunting" in October. Every Friday and Saturday in October at 8 p.m., haunting time begins.
There are twisted mazes, bridges, a haunted mineshaft and a headless horseman. It's located at 7060 W. 200 N. in Columbus, Indiana

The Stillwell Manor haunted house in Anderson has stiff competition, with Indy Screampark in the same city, but it is trying to carve out its own spot in Anderson. There are three attractions with strobe lights, tight spaces, loud doors, slanted floors and a crawlspace. Stillwell Manor is open every day through Halloween, with varying hours. Tickets cost $20 per person. The Stillwell Manor is located at 1704 E 60th St, Anderson.
Piney Acres Farm has a whole backstory for its haunted house, the Piney Acres Haunted Loft. According to the lore, a man named Dr. E. Rex ran to Hancock County, Indiana to avoid involvement in what led to the Salem Witch Trials. The doctor's secret laboratory was discovered in 2013, and he haunts the area each year.
There is also a corn maze, with several freed "experiments" from Dr. E. Rex's lab.
The attractions are open every Friday and Saturday night from 7-10 p.m. It's located at 1115 E 1000 N, Fortville, Indiana. You can attend those two attractions, plus a hayride, for $32 at the door, or $30 online. For more information, click here.
Roam the halls of a haunted schoolhouse in Monrovia, Indiana with Hall's Haunted Halls. There are many different horror characters from popular culture in the haunted hause, such as:
- Freddy Krueger
- Jason Voorhees
- Michael Meyers
- Chucky
- Leatherface
- Jigsaw
- “The Headless Horseman”
- Hannibal Lector
- Samara
Hall's Haunted Halls is open every Friday and Saturday in October. It costs $10 online or $12 at the door (cash only). Visit the schoolhouse at 5955 W. Hurt Road in Monrovia.
Similar to Piney Acres, House of Trepidation in Indianapolis also has a lengthy backstory. As the legend goes, the building was home to Dr. Eugene Irving Belle and his wife. The building has become a home for Belle's medical experiments. It's open select days through Halloween. Click here for the full list of dates and times.
House of Trepidation costs between $25-$35, depending on what ticket you're getting. It's located at 1929 S. Meridian St. in Indianapolis.
Fright Forest is a hayride in Lebanon, Indiana, as a home to many urban legends and rituals. The trail goes through Abner Longley Park.
It costs $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 4-12. It's located just off East Street in Lebanon. For more information, click here.
