INDIANAPOLIS -- Another Marion County township fire department is considering a merger with the Indianapolis Fire Department.
Over the years, Washington, Lawrence, Warren, Franklin and Perry townships have consolidated with IFD. Now, Pike Township is taking a serious look at it.
The Pike Township Trustee has given the go-ahead for a resolution to be drawn up proposing the merger. But that’s just the first step.
A public hearing must be held and the township board must give its approval.
If that happens, the proposal goes to the Indianapolis City-County Council.
Pike Township, along with Wayne and Decatur townships, are currently independent of IFD, as are the Speedway, Lawrence and Beech Grove departments.
