FENNVILLE, MI — An incredible find off the shore of Lake Michigan that has a connection to a former teacher and students here in Central Indiana.
A mother and daughter were out for a walk on Lake Michigan's shore near Fennville, Michigan when they discovered a message in a bottle.
Amy Gasaway and her daughter say it appears the Pepsi bottle was cast into the water nearly 20 years ago, as part of a high school class project. The project originated at Cascade High School in Hendricks County.
In the bottle were three letters, one from a teacher named Diane Flint and two from students.
The students' letters were dated September 10, 2001 — one day before the 9/11 terror attacks.
Gasaway and her daughter want to find the students and learn more about their lives since writing the letters.
"We're also curious at how many of them came back from their project, you know? Is this maybe one of the last few out there?" Gasaway said. "Were there ever any found, you know? We do have a couple questions for them."
RTV6 reached out to Cascade High School, and we're still waiting to see if the teacher, Diane Flint, or the students are willing to talk about the class project that's now getting national attention.
