BLOOMINGTON — Police in Bloomington are warning residents about a recent uptick in catalytic converter thefts from vehicles.
Police say eight catalytic converter thefts have been reported in December alone, which is higher than their normal average for the month.
The converters are being stolen from a variety of vehicles all over the city. In the past, Hondas and Acuras have been targeted in open parking lots.
Police are upping patrols in areas where the crimes have been reported and they ask anyone who notices suspicious activity to contact BPD or 911.
BPD offers the following advice to help keep yourself from becoming a victim:
- Try to park in a well-lighted, populated area
- If you have an outdoor security camera, try to park in view of it, or in range of motion lights
