BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A family in Bloomington is fed up with their home's flooding issues, which they say is a result of the nearby I-69 road construction.
Our Call 6 Investigates team has been looking at this problem for nearly a year.
The people responsible for the problem did step up and take action, but we found the fixes are failing.
The lower level of Tiffany and Nate Douglas' home floods when it rains, creating a foggy and smelly situation.
It's been going on ever since the I-69 expansion project began behind their backyard.
INDOT paid more than $36,000 for a portion of their yard for drainage, which may not be able to keep up with the rainfall.
The family has lived in their home for 19 years, and they thought everything was resolved after these issues popped up last summer. Development partners on the construction of I-69 paid for the water and mold clean-up, plus the addition of perimeter drains.
But the couple's family posted a Facebook video on Tuesday of a significant amount of water in their basement.
It's become emotionally draining - dealing with something they believed was fixed.
We reached out to INDOT, and in a statement, they said "An engineer, independent appraiser and two INDOT representatives conducted an on-site assessment of the Douglas property. Mr. Douglas' insurance claim is currently in process and being reviewed."
